Help Create Opportunities at the Laboratory for Information & Decision Systems

Giving to the LIDS Discretionary Fund provides the Lab with unrestricted funds that can be used to help meet our most pressing needs. These gifts create opportunities, help keep LIDS at the forefront of the field, and improve quality of life in the Lab.

Our goal is to raise $50,000-$75,000 each year from alumni and friends.

Examples of projects that could be financed by such gifts include:

  • Student Enrichment & Professional Development
LIDS consistently attracts an outstanding cadre of graduate students. One way to continue doing so is by providing as rich an educational experience as possible. To that end, discretionary funds may be used to send students to professional conferences and towards other enrichment activities.

  • Lab Space & Technology Enhancements
The LIDS community is growing, both here at MIT and around the world. An increasingly important need is making more physical and virtual space to accommodate our growth, including enhanced lab and office space, and improved communication technologies, such as video conferencing and live streaming for LIDS events.

  • LIDS-led Conferences, Workshops, & Symposia
Conferences, workshops, & symposia led by LIDS help position us as a leader in the field. Recent LIDS events include the Paths Ahead Symposium and the Workshop on Information & Decision in Social Networks. A robust Discretionary Fund will allow us to continue hosting these forums for sharing work and generating new ideas.
