Released in hardcover in December 2015 and as an ebook in January 2016, LIDS Prof. Robert Berwick and MIT linguistics professor Noam Chomsky present, Why Only Us: Language and Evolution. The book explores the remarkable, species-specific ability to acquire any human language—“the language faculty”. Berwick and Chomsky discuss the biolinguistic perspective on language, which views language as a particular object of the biological world; and the computational efficiency of language as a system of thought and understanding.
