Research in LIDS

The current research activities of the laboratory cover a wide range of theoretical and applied areas in Learning, Adaptation, and Layered Intelligent Systems, Communication Science and Systems, Control Theory, Estimation and Signal Processing, Algorithms, and Perceptual Systems and Machine Learning. These areas are broadly characterized as follows:

      • Communications
      • Systems, Detection, Estimation & Optimization
      • Control

The following interdisciplainary research groups are established within LIDS for research in two of the above areas:

- The Stochastic Systems Group (SSG), led by Prof. Alan Willsky, focus of research is on the development of statistically-based algorithms and methodologies for complex problems of information extraction from signals, images, and other sources of data.

- The Control Systems Group, including the Information Control Engineering Group, are interested in problems related to the modeling, identification, and control of systems.

The MIT/Draper Technology Development Partnership Program is concerned with the development of innovative aerospace surveillance technologies rooted in the combined fields of control systems, information technology, aerodynamics and systems engineering. Prof Deyst represents LIDS in this project.
