Luca Carlone to join MIT faculty, to be part of LIDS as a Principal Investigator

Luca Carlone, currently a Research Scientist at LIDS, will be joining the MIT department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, as an Assistant Professor, with the official appointment starting in January 2018. He will also be part of LIDS in a new capacity, as a Principal Investigator.

Luca received his PhD from the Politecnico di Torino in 2012. He joined LIDS in 2015 as a postdoctoral associate, after spending two years as a postdoctoral fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He was promoted to Research Scientist in 2016, and will keep this position till the start of his faculty appointment. His research interests include nonlinear estimation, numerical and distributed optimization, and probabilistic inference, applied to sensing, perception, and decision-making in single and multi robot systems. He is the recipient of several Best Paper awards in his field.
