The award recognizes scientists and engineers who show exceptional potential for leadership early in their research careers
Tamara Broderick has been awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) for her innovative work with the Office of Naval Research (ONR). Broderick is among nearly 400 scientists and engineers to receive the PECASE, the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on outstanding scientists and engineers early in their careers. The award recognizes innovative and far-reaching developments in science and technology, expands awareness of careers in science and engineering, recognizes the scientific missions of participating agencies, enhances connections between research and impacts on society, and highlights the importance of science and technology for our nation’s future.
Broderick is a faculty member in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS); she is also a member of the MIT Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems (LIDS), the MIT Statistics and Data Science Center, and the Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS). Broderick’s research focuses on providing fast and reliable quantification of both uncertainty and robustness in complex data analysis procedures. Together with her team and collaborators, she provides data analysis tools in areas ranging from genetics to economics to assistive technology. Among many honors, Broderick has been awarded designation as an IMS Fellow, selection to the COPSS Leadership Academy, an Early Career Grant from the Office of Naval Research, an NSF CAREER Award, a Sloan Research Fellowship, an Army Research Office Young Investigator Program award, Google Faculty Research Awards, and an Amazon Research Award.
